<p style="text-align: left;">The adoption of cloud services, the growth of remote work, and the constant integration between organizations, partners, and suppliers have <strong>drastically reduced the relevance of the traditional perimeter</strong>. Critical systems are now distributed beyond the data center, users access applications from multiple devices, and new digital identities are continuously created.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">The role of IAM in today&#8217;s digital environment</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">In this context, security is no longer tied exclusively to infrastructure. The new perimeter has become identity. IAM emerges as a direct response to this shift.</p>

Accounts remain active after employee departures, administrative privileges are granted as operational exceptions, and temporary access becomes permanent due to a lack of periodic review.</p>

From there, the attacker moves laterally within the environment using existing permissions, avoiding traditional detection mechanisms.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The compromise occurs not by breaking security, but by abusing it.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">IAM as a strategic element of cybersecurity</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">Given this scenario, IAM is no longer merely a technological initiative. It becomes a strategic component of corporate cybersecurity. Proper identity management enables <strong>continuous governance throughout the entire access lifecycle</strong>, from identity creation to its revocation.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Onboarding and offboarding processes can be automated, periodic reviews validate the real necessity of granted permissions, and principles such as <em>least privilege</em> and segregation of duties significantly reduce operational and fraud risks.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Still, <strong>implementing isolated tools does not guarantee maturity</strong>.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The effectiveness of IAM depends on the balance between <a href="https://it-eam.com/pt/blog/seguranca/red-team-technology-people-and-processes">people, processes, and technology</a>. Users must understand the responsibility associated with the use of their credentials, while organizational processes must define clear criteria for access approval and review.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">IAM and the Zero Trust model</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">This alignment becomes even more relevant with the growing adoption of the <a href="https://it-eam.com/pt/blog/expert-desk/cybersecurity-trends-for-2026?categoryName=expert-desk&amp;slug=cybersecurity-trends-for-2026">Zero Trust</a> model. Unlike traditional approaches, Zero Trust is based on the principle that <strong>no access should be implicitly trusted</strong>. Every request must be continuously validated based on identity, context, and the level of risk involved.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">IAM therefore becomes a central element in enabling this architecture, supporting strong authentication, granular privilege control, and continuous monitoring of the identities interacting with the corporate environment.</p>

Access requests become faster, audits benefit from centralized evidence, and users can securely and seamlessly access multiple systems.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Regulations increasingly require traceability for access to sensitive information, while incidents involving compromised credentials remain among the leading causes of security breaches worldwide. In many cases, the difference between a contained incident and a major breach is directly linked to the maturity of identity and privilege management.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The evolution of corporate security shows that protecting systems alone is no longer enough. Organizations must ensure that access to their digital assets is continuously validated and aligned with risk.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">In today&#8217;s digital environment, every action performed within an organization is associated with an identity. Controlling identities means controlling trust — and controlling trust has become one of the key factors for cyber resilience.</p>
